Do you ever feel like your job title should be changed to ‘Super Woman?’ Today’s woman wears more hats than ever before: Boss, Mom, Wife, Board Member, Friend, PTO Chair, Mentor, Caretaker. The list could go on and on. (Most of us put the pressure on ourselves to wear those hats well AND as fashionably as possible, I might add!) It is so natural for women to give 100% to everyone else in our lives, but why don’t we take the time to love and nurture ourselves first? It is so important to remember that we cannot give so much of ourselves to others without practicing self-care first.
What is self-care?
Self-care is the action you take to care for your own emotional and physical well-being. A stress-free day is not easy to come by in today’s society. The never-ending to-do lists and jam-packed schedules make becoming anxious, overwhelmed, and unorganized inevitable. It is necessary to make yourself a priority in order to prevent burnout and exhaustion.
How do we practice self-care?
Daily self-care can look different for each person. Get creative!
Some examples of emotional self-care are:
- Journal your thoughts and feelings
- Spend time with a friend
- Enjoy nature for 15 minutes a day
- Listen to peaceful music
Some examples of physical self-care are:
- Drink 8 or more glasses of water a day
- Move your body for 30 minutes a day
- Set a bedtime to ensure 7-8 hours of sleep per night
- Create a food plan at the beginning of each week to ensure you are eating a balanced diet
Why do we practice self-care?
Practicing some simple self-care tactics on a regular basis can lower our stress levels, increase our positivity, and give us more energy to care for ourselves and those we love. Today is the day to start putting yourself first!
